Former Pakistan cricket team bowler Azhar Mahmood has been appointed as the interim red-ball coach. Azhar Mahmood will serve in this position until the end of his current contract.

Azhar Mahmood has long been an important part of the team’s strategic core after serving as the assistant head coach of the national team. Azhar Mahmood was no longer a part of the team management after Mike Hesson became the head coach. Azhar Mahmood was not involved in the team management in the home series against Bangladesh.

It should be noted that Azhar Mahmood has a contract with the PCB until April 2026, during which time Pakistan has to play two Test series.
