Australia’s leg-spinner Adam Zampa has received an official reprimand from the ICC for using inappropriate language during the first ODI against South Africa in Cairns on August 19. The incident took place in the 37th over, when Zampa was caught on the stump mic swearing after a misfield and overthrow.
Since it was his first offence in the last two years, the 33-year-old was handed one demerit point for a Level 1 breach of the Code of Conduct. Zampa accepted the charge, so no hearing was required. Level 1 offences can result in a reprimand, fines up to 50% of match fees, and demerit points. In the match itself, Australia lost by 98 runs, with Zampa finishing with 1/58 in his 10 overs. The series continues with the next two ODIs in Mackay.
