Big Debate Over India’s Asia Cup 2025 Squad

by Shahrooz Ahmad

India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025 has triggered strong reactions. The biggest talking point is the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer, despite his brilliant IPL season where he scored 604 runs at a strike rate of 175.

Former captain Kris Srikkanth slammed chief selector Ajit Agarkar, saying Iyer should have been an automatic pick. Agarkar defended the decision, arguing it was difficult to fit him in without dropping someone else.

Questions were also raised about leaving out Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been in fine form, while Shubman Gill returned as vice-captain despite inconsistent T20I performances. Meanwhile, players like Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, and Sanju Samson—who had only average IPL numbers—kept their places.

The 15-member squad will be led by Suryakumar Yadav, with Dhruv Jurel chosen as the third wicketkeeper in the reserves.
