Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar called playing against Pakistan in the Asia Cup a compulsion for Indian players. Sunil Gavaskar said in favor of Indian cricketers that Indian players should not be criticized for playing matches against Pakistan, the players have no say in whether they play or not.
They say that players follow the orders of the Indian Cricket Board and the government. If the government has made a decision, why are the players being criticized for it?
Sunil Gavaskar says that after all, the players are under the contract of the BCCI and they take instructions from the government, in this matter the players are helpless and they have been selected only to play the Asia Cup. He further says that if the government tells them to play, they will play and if the government forbids them, they will not play.
