Former New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson is a strong candidate to replace interim head coach Aqib Javed of the Pakistan cricket team.

Mike Hesson is currently the head coach of Pakistan Super League team Islamabad United and the Pakistan Cricket Board has contacted Mike Hesson. The PCB had contacted him last year as well but he had declined due to pre-scheduled commitments.

According to sources, Mike Hesson is in talks with PCB officials. Former head coach Saqlain Mushtaq was also in the running, but Mike Hesson appears to be a strong candidate.

Level 3 qualification is required for the head coach and applications have been invited by May 4. The PCB has limited choices for the head coach and the PCB is more inclined towards a foreign coach.
