South Africa won the ICC World Test Champions title. On the fourth day of the final played at Lord’s, South Africa led the innings by 213 runs with two wickets out, needing another 69 runs to secure a historic victory. Captain Temba Bavuma lost his wicket just one run in, he played a brilliant innings of 66 runs.
Markram was also dismissed just 6 runs away from victory. He returned to the pavilion after scoring 136 runs, facing 207 balls and hitting 14 fours. Bedingham and Verney scored the remaining 6 runs needed for victory, leading their team to their first ICC event title in 27 years.
Chasing a target of 282 for five, South Africa defeated Australia by five wickets. Bedingham remained unbeaten on 21 and Vereeniging on 4, Markram was named Player of the Match for his brilliant innings. This is South Africa’s second ICC title. They had previously won the ICC One-Day Champions Trophy in 1998.
