England defeated Sri Lanka by 51 runs in the Super Eight stage match of the ICC T20 World Cup. In the match played in Pallekele, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to field against England. Batting first, England scored 146 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Sri Lanka showed excellent bowling and did not let any English batter play openly except Phil Salt. Phil Salt played a brilliant innings of 62 runs off 40 balls, while Will Jacks was the other notable player with 21 runs.
However, the Sri Lankan team failed to chase the target and was bowled out for 95 runs. It should be remembered that the first match of the Super Eight stage was to be played between Pakistan and New Zealand yesterday, which could not even start due to rain. As the match was cancelled due to rain, both the teams were given one point each.
