Sri Lankan spinner Dunith Wellalage received devastating news after his team’s thrilling six-wicket win over Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2025. His father, Suranga Wellalage, passed away due to a heart attack on Thursday, September 18. Dunith was representing Sri Lanka in the group-stage match against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi when he learned of his father’s tragic demise.Despite the emotional challenge, Dunith Wellalage played a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s victory, taking one wicket for 49 runs in four overs. However, Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi hit five sixes off him in the final over, scoring 32 runs and changing the momentum of the game.

Although News are coming that Wellalage was told about his father death after the match but his last over is telling another story in which he conceded 32 runs and total 17 runs in his remaining 3 overs.It feels like he got the news before his last over.Suranga Wellalage was not only a supportive father but also a talented cricketer who captained Prince of Wales College in the mid-1980s. Former cricketer and broadcaster Russell Arnold paid tribute on air to Suranga, recalling his leadership days and expressing condolences to the family.
