LEEDS: England dominated day three to beat Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ICC World Test Championship series at Headingley.
Resuming on 366-8, England were bowled out for 409. Harry Brook led with 91, with key contributions from Jordan Cox 72, Joe Root 66 and Dan Lawrence 51. Jofra Archer finished 23 not out. Ali Usman was Pakistan’s best with 5-95, while Khurram Shahzad took 3-133.

Set 238 behind, Pakistan collapsed for 135 in their second innings. Mohammad Rizwan top-scored with a quick 41 off 39, but England’s seamers ran through the lineup. Ollie Robinson, Josh Tongue and Jofra Archer claimed three wickets each. Robinson, who also took 5-51 in the first innings, was named Player of the Match for his 8-wicket haul.
Tongue’s burst removed Saud Shakeel, Shan Masood 29 and stand-in captain Salman Ali Agha to leave Pakistan 76-6.
From 76-6 in 22.5 overs, Pakistan’s last four wickets delayed the inevitable for 14.4 overs before England wrapped up the game with the wicket of Mohammad Abbas.

Joe Root also made history, taking the catch to dismiss Azan Awais and surpassing Steve Smith’s 218 to become Test cricket’s leading fielder with 219 catches.
