In the first match of the tri-nation series, New Zealand set a target of 331 runs to the host Pakistan for victory. In the match played at Gaddafi Stadium, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and decided to bat first.

Due to the responsible batting of Daryl Mitchell and Phillips, New Zealand scored 330 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs. Glenn Phillips played an aggressive innings of unbeaten 106 runs and scored a century off 72 balls, while Daryl Mitchell scored 81 runs.

Haris Rauf left the ground due to pain in his ribs during his seventh over. His over was completed by Salman Ali Agha. Pakistan team includes Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, Tayyab Tahir, Khushdal Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Abrar Ahmed.
