A new record for spectator attendance was set at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the Ashes Series.

On the first day of the Boxing Day Test of the Ashes Series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), a new record was created for cricket spectators. According to Cricket Australia, the first day of the ongoing Boxing Day Test match between Australia and England surpassed even the 2015 World Cup final.

Sources report that 93,442 spectators attended the match on the opening day at the MCG, while 93,013 people watched the 2015 World Cup final at the same venue. On the first day of the Boxing Day Test, Australia were bowled out for 152 runs in their first innings, and in reply, England’s entire team was also dismissed for 110 runs.
