Afghanistan defeated England by 8 runs and knocked them out of the Champions Trophy. In the match played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Afghan captain Hashmatullah won the toss and elected to bat first, which proved to be very beneficial.

The Afghanistan team scored 325 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 50 overs while playing first. On behalf of Afghanistan, Rahmanullah Garbaz and Ibrahim Zadran started the innings, but at the beginning of the match, Afghan opener Rahmanullah Garbaz got out after scoring 6 runs, while Siddiqullah also returned to the pavilion after scoring only 4 runs on a total of 15, after which Rahmat Shah also scored 4 runs.
