Pakistan Knocked Out of Champions Trophy After New Zealand Defeat Bangladesh

by Shahrooz Ahmad

RAWALPINDI – New Zealand booked their place in the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with a 5-wicket victory over Bangladesh, a result that confirmed Pakistan’s exit from the tournament.

In the sixth match of the event at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh batted first and posted 236 runs. In reply, the Black Caps chased down the target comfortably, finishing on 237/5 to secure their qualification for the knockout stage.

Defending champions Pakistan were left relying on other results after suffering consecutive defeats to India and New Zealand earlier in the group stage. For Pakistan to stay in contention, Bangladesh needed to beat New Zealand by a big margin, while India also had to defeat New Zealand comprehensively. Additionally, Pakistan themselves required a heavy win against Bangladesh in their final group game.

However, New Zealand’s triumph over Bangladesh dashed those hopes, confirming that both Pakistan and Bangladesh are out of the semi-final race. India and New Zealand have now officially qualified for the last four from Group A.
