It has been decided to introduce a players’ auction for the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Sources say that the matter of an auction draft and player retentions was discussed in the working committee of the PSL Governing Council, after which a decision was taken to introduce a players’ auction in the league. According to sources, a decision has also been finalized regarding player retentions for PSL 11. Sources further revealed that defending champions Lahore Qalandars voted in favor of the players’ auction. Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, and Hyderabad also supported the auction system.

Sources said that the five existing franchises agreed on four retentions, including one brand ambassador. Each of the five retentions will be from a different category, and one player can be moved to a lower category and designated as a brand ambassador.According to sources, the new franchises will select players from the remaining pool in the same manner. The remaining players’ pool will be put up for auction, and franchises will pick players through the auction process. The two new franchises reportedly pushed for zero retentions. Final approval of the working committee’s decisions will be given by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. If required, a meeting of the Governing Council may be convened. The auction and retention formula will be sent to Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and a formal announcement is expected within the next one or two days.
