In the opening match of the ICC Champions.Trophy 2025.New Zealand defeated the host Pakistan by 60 runs. The first batsman to get out of Pakistan was Saud Shakeel who got out after scoring 6 runs. Captain Mohammad Rizwan also returned to the pavilion on a total score of 22. He scored only 3 runs.
Pakistan’s third wicket fell on 69 runs when Faker zaman was dismissed for 24 runs. Pakistan’s fourth player to get out was Salman Agha who returned to the pavilion after scoring 42 runs on 28 balls. Tayyab Tahir, who came after him, got out for just one run. After him, Babar Azam also got out on a total score of 153, Babar Azam played an innings of 64 runs on 90 balls.
Pakistan’s seventh wicket fell on 200 runs, Shaheen Shah Afridi was dismissed for 14 runs, followed by Khushdil Shah who played an innings of 69 runs on 49 balls. Pakistan’s ninth wicket fell on 260 runs when Haris Rauf was dismissed for 19 runs.
National team captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and invited the visiting team to bat. New Zealand scored 320 runs for the loss of 5 wickets while playing first against Pakistan in the allotted 50 overs.
Abrar Ahmed gave Pakistan the first victory when New Zealand’s first wicket fell for 39 runs, Dion Conway was bowled by Abrar Ahmed for 10 runs. Later, Naseem Shah dismissed Kane Williamson for just 1 run, Williamson was caught behind the wickets by Muhammad Rizwan. The third wicket was taken by Haris Rauf who dismissed Daryl Mitchell for 10 runs.
Will Young played a brilliant innings of 107 runs, he was dismissed by Naseem Shah for 107 runs. Glenn Phillips was dismissed by Haris Rauf, he played an innings of 61 runs off 39 balls. Tom Latham played an unbeaten innings of 118 runs.
