Australian cricket team’s young all-rounder Cameron Green has become the most expensive overseas player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). During the players’ auction for the IPL 2026 season, the Kolkata Knight Riders secured the services of Cameron Green. A fierce bidding war took place between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders to include Green in their squad. Kolkata Knight Riders purchased Cameron Green for INR 25 crore 20 lakh, making him the costliest overseas player in IPL history.
Previously, the record for the most expensive foreign player was held by Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 24 crore 75 lakh for the 2024 season. The record for the most expensive player overall in IPL history is held by Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 27 crore last season.
