Punjab athletes display superb performance in multiple game disciplines and take their gold medals aggregate to 78.

LAHORE (December 18, 2024): Director General Sports Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry witness competitions of boys’ and girls’ hockey, taekwondo, squash, badminton and table tennis

Punjab contingent as expected has tightened its grip on top position in Inter-Provincial Quaid-e-Azam Games on the penultimate day at Islamabad on Wednesday.

Punjab’s male and female athletes displayed superb performance in multiple game disciplines and took their gold medals aggregate to 78 in the week-long sports extravaganza in the federal capital.

Director General Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry watched the competitions of boys’ and girls’ hockey, taekwondo, squash, badminton and table tennis.

He was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of the squash event and awarded medals and prizes to the prominent performers.

Director General Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry announced that the new hockey sticks and joggers will be given to gold medal winning male and female players.

Director Admin Dr M Kaleem and Director Sports Rana Nadeem Anjum and other officials were also present on this occasion.

As per results, Punjab female hockey team exhibited marvelous ball control goal scoring prowess against Sindh in the final match of Inter-Provincial Quaid-e-Azam Games women’s hockey event. They won the gold medal by defeating Sindh team comprehensively by a wide margin of 16-0 in the title clash.

In boys’ hockey event final, Punjab hockey team faced stiff challenge from their strong opponents Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but they managed to clinch the gold medal after defeating Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with a narrow margin of 4-2 in the final match.

In boys’ squash event, Punjab pocketed one gold medal and one silver medal in the grand event.

In taekwondo, Zartasha Asghar and Syed Akmal Mehmood of Punjab won the gold medals. Punjab’s Kalsoom Khan clinched two more gold medals in girls’ table tennis. In boys’ football, Punjab beat Gilgit Baltistan to bag the bronze medal.
