Major changes expected in central contract 2024-25

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet to announce the central contracts for the 2024-25 season, although sources suggest that major changes are expected.

The previous contracts of 25 cricketers, divided into four categories for the 2023-24 season, expired on June 30, 2024.

In Category ‘A,’ Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi are expected to retain their positions, with no new additions anticipated. However, Test captain Shaun Masood is likely to remain in Category ‘B’ alongside Naseem Shah, Fakhar Zaman, and Shadab Khan, who were also in this category last year. Former Test captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and fast bowler Haris Rauf are not expected to stay in Category ‘B,’ and all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is also unlikely to be included.

Abdullah Shafiq is expected to stay in Category ‘C,’ while Saeem Ayub, Saud Shakeel, Usama Mir, and Mir Hamza may join him. As per sources it is unlikely that the new contract will offer significant financial
